The history of Apple Cards

Over at LexOnTech our pal Lex Friedman¹ has the skinny behind the long defunct Apple Cards, a project driven by Steve Jobs himself:

In 2011, Mike said, “Steve Jobs was on one of his famous walks after having had a dinner with someone,” and he said to his walking companions from Apple, Mike was later told: “Wouldn’t it be great if I could just right now on my iPhone send [the dinner companion] a thank you card?”

Apple decided to build an iPhone app just for creating and mailing cards. And the project moved fast, because it was a Steve-initiated one. As it turns out, the app was built and launched during the final year of Steve’s life.

Of course, no story of cards and Apple is complete without a link to the euology for Apple’s earlier card service, iCards, created in part by our own contributor, Phil Michaels, back in 2008 (starts at 2:30). (My god, they just keep trying to make cards happen, don’t they.)
