Star Wars: Squadrons preps for launch

I’ve been beating the drum for a Star Wars dogfighting game in the style of the classic X-Wing and TIE Fighter games for as long as I can remember, and it looks like it may have finally paid off.

EA on Monday took the wraps off its upcoming game, Star Wars: Squadrons, with a cinematic trailer. More details are expected later this week at the EA Play Live event, but here’s what we do know via The Verge: the game has both five-on-five multiplayer as well as a single-player campaign set at the end of the Galactic Civil War (read: the original trilogy). There will also be other modes, including “Fleet Battles” where you team up with you squadron mates to take down a bigger ship, like a Star Destroyer.

Squadrons debuts on October 2nd for $40, and will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with cross-platform play enabled. Both the PS4 and PC versions will also feature VR support.

Having been anticipating this for years now, fall can’t come soon enough for me. Here’s hoping that additional details from EA only whet the appetite more.
