Apple releases ‘The Morning Show’ trailer

On Monday Apple released a two-minute trailer for “The Morning Show.” It’s the most in-depth look we’ve had at any Apple TV+ series1. I get a real “West Wing” vibe from it—director Mimi Leder is no stranger to high-energy TV series. The show’s plot line is clearer now: Jennifer Aniston is one half of a famous TV morning show duo, but the other member of that duo—Steve Carell—is fired for some sort of bad behavior. His replacement appears to be Reese Witherspoon, whose fresh new presence (and support for her from the show’s producers and network executives) threatens Aniston’s character. Tale as old as time, really.

As we get perilously close to the fall and to the launch of Apple TV+, we’re going to finally get a much closer look at the shows Apple has been working on for the last couple of years. Perhaps at next month’s iPhone launch event we’ll get a sense of when the service is actually launching, and what it will cost.

  1. There’s a “For All Mankind” first look trailer, but it strikes me as more of a quick-hit premise download than this one, for whatever reason.
