Gurman: Low-cost iPad and MacBook coming, but maybe not both next week
Today Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman rounded up the likely announcements at Apple’s Tuesday event in Chicago:
In Chicago, the world’s most-valuable technology company plans to show off a new version of its cheapest iPad that should appeal to the education market, said people familiar with the matter… A new, cheaper MacBook laptop is in the works and likely destined to replace the MacBook Air at a price less than $1,000, but it probably won’t be ready in time for next week, the people said.
Thematically, next week’s event would be the perfect opportunity to announce that lower-cost MacBook, but if it’s not ready to ship, I can see why Apple might want to hold off. I’m also still holding out hope that a low-cost iPad will get support for the Apple Pencil.
