Mitchel Broussard at MacRumors notes that a CW app will, at long last, be appearing on the Apple TV next week:
A few shows on The CW have begun tweeting out a confirmation that the network’s Apple TV app will arrive sometime “next week,” along with apps on Roku, Chromecast, Xbox, and Amazon Fire TV (via iDigitalTimes). The hint of an incoming Apple TV app was discovered last week, but an official Apple TV app for The CW — and not just the clip-based “Seed” platform — has been in the works for over three years. The Apple TV app will also support AirPlay.
I noted on Twitter a couple weeks back that the CW had started to tease this on its website. Good thing, too, since the network has pulled its content from Hulu and struck a deal with Netflix to have seasons appear on that service shortly after they finish. It seemed obvious that it would need some sort of streaming solution for folks to watch the shows as they air.
(This is a sort of private vindication for me, too. I wrote an article more than three years ago that a CW channel was imminent for the old Apple TV—a development that never came to pass. And, uh, I could really use that bumped down the Google Search results…)
