Nest founder Tony Fadell departs
Tony Fadell calls it quits:
Since the launch of Nest in October 2011, this blog has been a place for me to share my thoughts on all things Nest – like explaining why we created the Nest Learning Thermostat, sharing the customer stories that inspire us, announcing new products and services, or highlighting our exceptional partners across retail, energy and insurance providers, professional installers, and the developer community. Today though, my news is bittersweet: I have decided that the time is right to “leave the Nest.”
I have no special insight about what’s been happening at Nest, beyond the trickles we’ve gotten through tales of strife leaking out from the inside. What I do know is that Nest emerged with a pretty damned cool product, and since then hasn’t done a whole lot beyond buy and kill some other technology and release an underwhelming smoke alarm.
I hope the company gets it together and forges ahead without Fadell. I still like my Nest thermostat, especially the hardware design. I wish I had the faith in the company as a whole that I once did.
