Close encounters of the Apple Campus kind

Apple provided Mashable with some great pictures of its new, still-under-construction campus, which do nothing at all to dispel the idea that the company is building a gigantic spaceship to save the select few when the sea levels rise too far:

In fact, the new campus required the creation of custom-made machines – which Apple calls “manipulators” – to handle the lifting and placing of nearly 900 curved glass panels, some of which measure an incredible 46 feet long and 10.5 feet wide. The project is not only a massive undertaking on the ground, but Apple is working with design firms, material suppliers and other vendors across 19 countries.

Mashable’s piece also provides the first look at the “Theatre,” the auditorium that will replace the company’s pretty tiny Town Hall and will likely be the venue for most new product announcements.
