We’ve moved – please excuse our dust

Note: This story has not been updated since 2020.

I’ve been spending a lot of time using PHP.

When I started Six Colors, I built the site using the venerable Movable Type blog system because I needed to build something quickly and get it live a few days after I left my old job at IDG.

Over the years, Movable Type has served me well. But last summer I realized that I was running into numerous issues with integrating Movable Type with various modern web tools, including the Memberful system that we use for our membership program.

For the last few months I’ve been working with the people at Automattic to move Six Colors to WordPress and host it on their Pressable hosting platform. The goal has been to keep the Six Colors site design, as created by Christa Mrgan, intact. I learned a lot about PHP and how WordPress themes work, but I think we’ve done it.

While we’ve made every effort to keep the new site compatible with the old one, right down to the links, there will definitely be bugs here and there. Some image files may have failed to come over, and we’re tracking those down. Our RSS feed needs some tweaks, too. And there are undoubtedly some of those unforeseen issues you get any time you embark on a project like this.

For our members, we’ll be adding direct links to our members-only podcast on the site, and articles that were previously only available via our monthly newsletter will now be posted here, so you can read them on the web or in your RSS reader via a custom members-only RSS feed.

As always, I welcome your feedback at jsnell@sixcolors.com, on Twitter at @jsnell, or in the Six Colors membership Slack group.
