Happy Birthday to Relay FM
Note: This story has not been updated for several years.

A year ago Myke Hurley and Stephen Hackett launched Relay FM, a podcast network that I’m proud to be a part of. My date of departure from IDG and Macworld was set at about the same time that Relay launched, and I immediately approached Myke and Stephen to take on Clockwise1 and launch a new show, which became Upgrade.
In the year since Relay launched, it has grown, picking up shows from other networks and starting a bunch of its own. Just yesterday Stephen talked me into doing a space show and Marco and Tiffany Arment launched one of their own too.
Hey guys. I quit my job today.
In four weeks time I will be a professional podcasters.

Myke quit his job to work on relay full time last fall and Stephen quit his job just a few weeks ago. Relay FM has no outside investment and is growing by following a do-it-ourselves ethos that I really appreciate. (Read much more about that on TechCrunch.) I’m so happy to work with Myke and Stephen on a regular basis, and am glad that Relay exists! Thanks to them, to all the great Relay hosts, and to all the listeners.
- Pete Longo and John Gallant at IDG graciously allowed Dan Moren and me to walk away with ownership of Clockwise, for which I’m grateful. ↩
