Happy Birthday to Relay FM
A year ago Myke Hurley and Stephen Hackett launched Relay FM, a podcast network that I’m proud to be a part of. My date of departure from IDG and Macworld was set at about the same time that Relay launched, and I immediately approached Myke and Stephen to take on Clockwise1 and launch a new show, which became Upgrade.
In the year since Relay launched, it has grown, picking up shows from other networks and starting a bunch of its own. Just yesterday Stephen talked me into doing a space show and Marco and Tiffany Arment launched one of their own too.
Hey guys. I quit my job today. In four weeks time I will be a professional podcasters.— Myke Hurley (@imyke) October 8, 2014
Myke quit his job to work on relay full time last fall and Stephen quit his job just a few weeks ago. Relay FM has no outside investment and is growing by following a do-it-ourselves ethos that I really appreciate. (Read much more about that on TechCrunch.) I’m so happy to work with Myke and Stephen on a regular basis, and am glad that Relay exists! Thanks to them, to all the great Relay hosts, and to all the listeners.
Pete Longo and John Gallant at IDG graciously allowed Dan Moren and me to walk away with ownership of Clockwise, for which I’m grateful. ↩
