This Week in Apple: With beta-ed breath

Apple TV scores big and while the iPhone 18 reviews are in, the iOS 27.1 beta is not.

Time to bring back the plus sign

Let’s give a hearty round of applause for TV. Fantastic. Well done just in general. So many shows and so many of high quality.

And there’s also Peacock! Just great.

While TV is broadly very good these days, Apple TV is especially good and this week it got more bonafides to prove it.

“Widow’s Bay sweeps 78th Primetime Emmy Awards as Apple TV scores 9 more wins”

“Apple TV’s Pluribus Wins Six Awards at the 2026 Emmys, Including Rhea Seehorn’s First Win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series”

The latter prompted Apple to toot its own massive horn by sponsoring billboard ads reading “Congratulations, Carol”, a play on some things that happen in the show.

At least I hope it was Apple.

This week also marked the return of the hit show “Slow Horses” and Apple further announced two more seasonsare in the works.…
