About Jason Snell

Jason Snell (photo by Ben Rice McCarthy)

Jason is the founder and editor of Six Colors, a website about Apple and related technologies. He’s also the founder of The Incomparable (a podcast and podcast network), and hosts numerous podcasts (see below), including the popular Upgrade podcast with Myke Hurley. He writes twice a month at Macworld and is the author of Take Control of Photos. He and his wife live in Mill Valley, California.

Jason worked at Macworld for 17 years and was the lead editor for more than a decade. During his time there, he covered every major Apple product release, including every version of OS X, the iPod (yes, that’s him at the launch event), iPhone (yes, he got his hands on it before almost anyone else), iPad, countless Macs, and much more. Until he left IDG in 2014 to start Six Colors, he won a bunch of awards and even (very briefly) interviewed Steve Jobs once.

You can email him at jsnell@sixcolors.com, and find him on social media on Mastodon or Bluesky.

Jason’s podcasts

There are a lot of them. Here they are:

Upgrade: Jason and Myke Hurley discussing tech topics, mostly Apple.

The Incomparable Mothership: A pop-culture podcast Jason has hosted since 2010, with a variety of guest panelists.

Downstream: The business of streaming media, with frequent visits from Vulture’s Joe Adalian and veteran sportswriter Will Carroll.

Robot Or Not?: Jason asks John Siracusa what is (and is not) a robot.

The Incomparable Game Show: Features Jason frequently as a player, and he hosted Trivial Retreat and hosts the new Missed Connections sub-shows.

Six Colors: A weekly tech conversation available to members of this very website.

MacBreak Weekly: The latest Apple news and views, with Leo Laporte, Andy Ihnatko, and Christina Warren.

There are also a few seasonal episodic TV podcasts, covering new Star Trek, Doctor Who, For All Mankind, and a random walk through the original Magnum, p.i..
