The Apple Watch’s lack of Activation Lock
Our pal Rene Ritchie takes a look at the Apple Watch’s antitheft measures–or lack thereof–over at iMore:
The frustrating part here is that the Apple Watch has all the elements in place to offer Activation Lock, and so the potential to offer even better security.
The issue at hand is that you can erase all the settings of an Apple Watch without having to enter the four-digit passcode you’ve set. Which is convenient if you’ve forgotten the passcode and want to reset your Watch, but less good when it comes to theft deterrence.
As Rene also points out, the security options are more limited on the Watch than on, say, your phone. Typing in your iCloud password on the Apple Watch would be kind of annoying, to say the least.
